How to write a short bio people remember

A simple formula for writing a short, memorable bio for your social profiles and link in bio page, with examples.

You have a sentence or two to tell a stranger who you are and why they should stay. That’s not much room, which is exactly why a formula helps.

A simple formula

  • Who you are, in plain words: “Illustrator,” “Bakery,” “Indie band”
  • What makes you specific: “botanical prints,” “sourdough,” “too many synths”
  • What’s happening now: “New EP out now,” “Commissions open for spring”

Examples

  • Illustrator. Botanical prints, zines & the odd mural. Commissions open for spring.
  • Sourdough, pastries & strong coffee. Open Wed–Sun, 7am till sold out.
  • A weekly podcast about tiny habits that change everything. New episodes Mondays.

Small things that help

  • Write like you talk. Skip the buzzwords
  • Use a line break to separate who you are from what’s new
  • Update the “what’s new” line whenever something changes
  • Read it out loud. If it’s hard to say, it’s hard to read

Putting it on your page

Your liimb bio holds up to 280 characters and keeps your line breaks, so the formula fits comfortably. Pair it with a clear profile photo, and your page will feel familiar the moment someone lands.
