What is a link in bio?

A plain-language guide to link in bio pages: what they are, why creators and businesses use them, and how to make one that people actually tap.

Most social profiles give you room for exactly one clickable link. A link in bio is a small web page that lives at that one link and points to everything else: your website, your latest post, your shop, your newsletter, your other profiles.

When someone says “link in bio,” they mean: tap the link on my profile, and you’ll find what I just mentioned.

Why one link isn’t enough

You probably have more than one thing worth sharing. Swapping your single profile link every time you post means older posts point to the wrong place, and visitors who arrive later can’t find what they came for.

A link in bio page fixes that. The address stays the same, and you change what’s on the page instead.

What goes on a good link in bio page

  • A recognizable name and photo, so visitors know they’re in the right place
  • A short bio that says what you do and what’s new
  • Three to seven links, with the most important one at the top
  • Clear link titles that say what happens when you tap
  • A look that matches the rest of your brand

Link in bio vs. a full website

A website is a home for depth: long pages, archives, checkout flows. A link in bio page is a front door. It’s built for phones, loads quickly, and gets people where they’re going in one tap.

Many people use both. The link in bio page points to the website, along with everything that doesn’t live there.
